Roads in Moldova are generally of a poor standard, with surfaces even in main towns covered in potholes and difficult to navigate. Aggressive local drivers tend not to help matters at all, and unclear road markings or unlit streets become all the more common outside of towns – night time driving is best avoided. Buses serve most destinations in the country and are cheap, but tend to be unreliable and overcrowded. Taxis services operate around the country, and there are services targeted at Western visitors, offering English-speaking drivers and flat rate fares. Other public transport includes trams, minibuses and trolleybuses, all of which tend to be overcrowded, slow and unreliable, as well as minor havens for petty thefts and pick pocketing. Train travel in Moldova is another crowded, uncomfortable experience, though services cover destinations all over the country and prices are cheap. There are no internal flights in Moldova.
